My work is an exploration of form and materiality.

Observation and interaction drive my creative process which encompasses works in welded steel, cast sculpture, mixed media, photography and film. Works evolve in a collage-like fashion with, at times, ‘chance’ being my principal collaborator. For me, there is a thrill in not fully knowing what a finished piece may look like until the last weld run is made, a cast within a mould revealed or daub of colour dried.

I live and work on the Isle of Wight, in southern UK. In much of my work I take reference from the coastal environment, the impact of mankind upon it and the extraordinary acts of nature. Equally, I am drawn to the dynamics of urban existence and architectural form.

Platforms for experimentation without consequence clutter my studio as I seek forms that evolve through design, inspiration, practicality and chance. Experience has led me to look deeper and smile longer as frustrations, failures and successes mutate. The marks of process; ‘the story’, as relevant and vital as the ‘finished’ sculpture.

The act of creating is, in itself, an adventure; not merely about following a set of rules.
